FreeQuality.org - A Brief History
|
 |
This www.Freequality.org web site is the epitome of teamwork. The FreeQuality web site originated as a result of the teamwork by Penn State University - Quality and Manufacturing Management graduate students. This work was carried on by the students of Boise State University and is now housed at Brigham Young University. At BYU, undergraduate and MBA students are lending their talents to making this an even better resource for quality professionals.
To begin this journey, I presented the students with a vision for a web site that we hoped would become a preeminent site for quality practitioners and others who are interested in quality improvement. The notion behind this site is pretty straightforward. The field of quality management, in spite of many claims to the contrary, has not done a good job of disseminating quality tools to the general public. Software is expensive and consultants are more than willing to sell their wares at exorbitant prices. We decided to develop this web site to give away quality tools for free. There are many partners in this effort. BYU has donated hosting space for the site, I have put a major effort into this work, Penn State and Boise State students have donated much work by developing utilities, and Brigham Young University has partnered to provide support for future development.
In the beginning, we focused on mainly developing quality tools. Since, we have created many training materials. You can download and use them. We only ask that credit be given to the original developers and that you not represent this software and content as your own. This site is completely non-commercial and we are providing this so that you can support decision-making with good analytical approaches. We do not warrant the software herein provided or guarantee that the decisions you make based on this software will be the correct decisions. Our desire is to provide tools free of charge. I think it is fair to say that this site has become a major resource for the world and the quality community. All of the credit belongs with the many students who have donated their talents to this site. They have donated all of this content to the world community -- free of charge.
Now that's teamwork!
